Pinterest Expert’s Course reveals 10 Simple Strategies for Businesses and Bloggers

In this blog post I will answer seven common questions business owners and bloggers have about how to be successful on Pinterest.

Q: Tell us about your background and what led you to eventually try out Pinterest and eventually become an expert in it?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett

I have over 30 years experience as a business manager, owner and coach. Six years ago I became a certified social media strategist. I quickly decided I had better have a niche since there are so many people offering social media marketing services. I knew I wanted to be an expert in one social but which one? There was no way I could be an expert in all socials. There is so much to know and it’s daunting to keep up with all the changes.

I realized that Pinterest was going to be huge for ecommerce and for driving traffic to websites so I decided to specialize in Pinterest. For the last five years our agency has helped businesses, solopreneurs, and bloggers get more traffic and sales from Pinterest. We have helped them through our online courses, setting up their accounts, monthly management services, audits, mentorship programs, and private coaching. We also provide content for blogs, photography services, and more.

Q: With all the places to drive traffic and leads, why should people focus on Pinterest?

A: Pinterest Expert’s course says…

First it is very important to realize that Pinterest is not a social media website like Facebook, it is a search engine like Google. That means people who go on Pinterest to plan & are looking for things to buy.  So if you have stuff to sell it makes sense to have as high a profile as possible where the shoppers are looking.  You don’t get that on any other social.

In addition, of all the social media networks out there the content that you share on Pinterest has the most potential to also get found on Google. My Pinterest expert’s course clearly states that is important to recognize because at the end of the day people who are looking for your products or services are still using Google. And it gets even better because Pinterest can help your business rank on the first page of Google under your most important keywords. What that means to business people is getting more traffic and a better quality of traffic because they are self-selected, plus it’s free.

Pinterest has helped my business rank on the first page of Google as a Pinterest Expert. If you type in Pinterest expert you’ll see my Pinterest account. That’s because Pinterest boards are indexed by Google. I’m not so sure other social media networks have the capabilities to do that. I have saved tens of thousands of dollars by not having to buy any ads to get my traffic.

Q: One of the things that probably keeps people from marketing on Pinterest is lack of graphic design skills. What are some tools and tips you can give to people to help overcome this challenge?

A: Pinterest Expert’s course says…

You need visuals for Pinterest and lots of them. I think we can agree that regardless of what social you decide to invest in you need visuals because they help increase engagement. For example, most bloggers or writers have an image for their Facebook post. They could easily use a tool like Canva to convert that Facebook image to a Pinterest image in seconds. It’s not a perfect tool and you have to make some adjustments but if you have zero knowledge about creating visuals Canva is your go to tool.

In my mind the perfect image creation tool for Pinterest has not been developed yet. I know the challenges businesses and bloggers face when it comes to Pinterest images. I’d love to work with a creative genius one day to come up one that does it all!

One of the most important tips I can give to those who blog or write articles is that on Pinterest there are certain types of images that work best. You have to know that ahead of time and use the correct images in order to drive boat loads of traffic to your website. I could go on for another hour about visuals but for now know they are important and you can use Canva as your go to tool.

Q: How do you decide what type of content to create for Pinterest? Can you tell beforehand what kinds of visual content will do well?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett

That’s a great 2 part question. First, what content should you create?

It’s important to identify who your target audience is first. Many people just write without giving any thought to who they are speaking to.

In terms of what content to create you need first need to decipher what problems you need to help your readers solve. Ask yourself “am I creating content that connects with my target audience by solving one or more of their most pressing problems”? One of the easiest ways to find out is to ask your readers—plain and simple, right?

Pinterest is a unique platform and people go there looking for help so it only makes sense to create posts that your target audience will find relevant, interesting, informative, HELPFUL and ultimately content they will take action on. If my audience reads my posts but they’re not taking action on it then I’ve failed. (Meaning I haven’t helped them)
Second; Pinterest is also great for gathering market intelligence and telling you what content to create.  Use the Guided Search Tool. It reveals the most popular content people are looking for on Pinterest. If that is what your market wants, then give it to them.

Definitely there are certain kinds of images that will get more attention than others on Pinterest.

96% of images on Pinterest are not branded which is a great opportunity for your businesses because if you brand your images you stand out from the competition. Consistent branding is important on Pinterest. For bloggers and writers please make sure you have text overlay on your images so that Pinners know what they will learn if they click on your image.

There is definitely some science to what and how to use images on Pinterest and it should be taken seriously if you want to get more traffic and sales.

Q: What types of businesses and people should be spending time on Pinterest and what types of businesses would perhaps get a better ROI from focusing on other channels?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett explains in her Course…

If your customers and those you want to attract are the Millennials, Moms, and women in general then you need to be on Pinterest. The largest audience on Pinterest happens to be the Millennial moms. That’s important because they comprise the fastest-growing consumer segment in America and Millennial buyers are projected to spend an annual $1.4 trillion by 2020.

Pinterest is literally a catalogue of ideas that people use to plan. If you have content that can help your target audience when they are in the planning stages of achieving their goals then consider Pinterest. If you have an ecommerce site you definitely need to be on Pinterest.

Bloggers and publishers should definitely be on Pinterest too because their content gets shared over and over for years on Pinterest which will produce a bigger ROI compared to other socials.

Those that should consider other social media networks are businesses who do not want to invest in creating content and images. For example if you’re a sales coach and you want to get more leads but you don’t have a blog then you should consider LinkedIn.

Q: Let’s say you are starting a business from scratch and want to use Pinterest to drive traffic and leads to it. What are some steps that you would take to start growing your following and driving traffic?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett

There are so many businesses out there that try to figure out how to master Pinterest on their own. First, recognize it is a search engine, which means you have to understand Pinterest search engine optimization otherwise you are wasting your time.

Second, too many people they think Pinterest is easy; that they can just slap an image on there and we’ll get found, and lots of people will come to our website. It that were the case our agency would not exist today.

The smartest thing anyone can do is to get help from a proven expert. Someone who is qualified, who’s been there done that. This way you do not have to repeat the same mistakes they once made. You use experts to fix your car, fix your computer, do your taxes; you need expert advice or at least expert education to use Pinterest properly.

You don’t have to figure it out on your own. Mistakes costs money. Avoid winging it because I guarantee you’ll fail and you’ll wonder why you didn’t find success using Pinterest marketing.

Third, stop reading every Pinterest blog out there because Pinterest makes changes every month, sometimes more.  Which means, most of the blogs are out of date and wrong in a month.

Q: How can businesses generate actual leads and sales from Pinterest? Is content marketing required or can they just upload their products?

A: Pinterest Expert’s course says…

Absolutely you can generate leads and sales from Pinterest. If you master Pinterest SEO you will get found on the top of both Pinterest’s search engine and Google – that’s how you get leads.

If you have any freebies that lead back to an opt-in box that’s how you generate a lead. Pinterest is amazing for growing your email list. One quick way to generate more subscribers, traffic and saves on Pinterest is to create more landing pages. But this means having more opt-in bribes on your site.

In the Pinterest analytics for businesses you will see what content has generated the most clicks to your website.Naturally a certain percentage of those leads will generate sales. So it is a numbers game, use Pinterest to get more traffic to your website and you’ll make more sales.

There are also free tools for businesses that you can use that to help you make instant sales; one of them is called Buyable Pins.

Just pushing your products on Pinterest is a sure way to fail. Your content has to include direct and indirect content which means positioning your brand as a helpful advisor. People go to Pinterest to solve a problem or do something better, cheaper, faster. Give them that.

Q: How much time should people spend on Pinterest and what are some of the day to day things that people need to do on Pinterest?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett

I offer two Pinterest online courses and both cover the fastest and easiest way to manage your Pinterest account and accounts for other businesses. In those courses, I reveal what you need to do daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly.

I have a proven easy to follow blueprint formula so you don’t have to figure it out on your own. I love showing people how to do things easier and faster. I’m naturally wired that way so I’ve created step by step checklists and templates to help you stay organized.

Some of your daily activities should include:

  • Follow 300 Pinners or boards
  • Pinning your own stuff and repinning others content
  • Share pins on your other socials
  • Repin from trending topics & trending ideas
  • Manage your group board when you get an email notification
  • Respond to comments
  • Create images so you drive more traffic to your blog and website

What’s even more important is how to schedule your pins ahead of time so you don’t spend hours just winging it on a daily basis. I go over all this in both my Pinterest online courses.

If you’re a beginner you’ll spend at least an hour or two per day depending if that time involves creating content for Pinterest.

Q: How long does it take before people start noticing results from Pinterest marketing?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett

This is a great and important question because people want to know if Pinterest will pay off if they decide to really commit to it. In life, in general, many of us want bigger, better, faster results with less effort.

If you follow my recipe for success you will start seeing results within a month. If you don’t then you will struggle. For example, we helped our client Shefit increase their website traffic by 247% within the first month! They didn’t have any blogs at the time and very few products to sell so we were pretty happy to see that much traffic flow to their site from Pinterest. It’s all about how well you have injected those SEO juices and your visuals of course, and being consistent with your general Pinterest activities. Exactly how long will be different for everyone so I can’t give you a black and white answer however you need at least three to six months before you can see an ROI.

Q: Pinterest SEO: How important is optimizing for keywords on Pinterest? Or is it more important to focus on just creating quality content?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett explains from her Course…

Pinterest is a search engine so it’s critically important to master that and inject those SEO juices in the correct places. However many business and bloggers aren’t doing it correctly. There are some keywords that work better than others and unfortunately many don’t know how to figure this out.

Pinterest has it’s own search engine which is NOT exactly the same as using Google keywords.

Quality content is equally as important so you have to do both to be successful. We help businesses master both or teach them how to do it themselves through private coaching sessions.

Q: If you could give 1-2 tips for people that want to grow their Pinterest following and generate an ROI, what would they be?

A: Pinterest Marketing Expert Anna Bennett

Don’t start using Pinterest unless you know what the entire process will look like. Meaning how will you figure out SEO, who will do the daily pinning activities, who will create the content etc.

Speaking of SEO you must know what your keywords are, how to keep up to date with them and how to use them on Pinterest.  If you can’t learn that you will struggle and waste time

At some point, you will need help because there are some parts of Pinterest that require special skills. Bottom line; success will require time and money.  So I guess I am saying understand the big picture and be prepared to invest in it or stay away from Pinterest.

The 2 biggest tips are: Learn Pinterest SEO and get proven help through a course or thought management or coaching. Pinning for personal reasons is not the same as managing your Pinterest business account. There is a lot of science that goes into Pinterest success plus Pinterest makes changes every week. It is hard work.

Pinterest is worth it if you get it set up right and you are prepared to manage it correctly because your content gets shared over and over for many years. In terms of ROI that’s phenomenal.
