Pinterest Expert Shares 6 Smart, Instant Tips For Getting More Followers on Pinterest

With the autumn season and several trending holidays just around the corner it’s a good idea to give your Pinterest page a quick makeover to get more followers.

1) Review About section

An often-neglected aspect of corporate social media profiles are the text descriptions or “About” sections. When was the last time you updated the written copy there? If it’s looking a little out of date or stale, give it an update that more closely aligns with your latest marketing or customer service messaging. Good social media marketing requires that you use specific keywords that will ramp up your SEO.

  • For example are you running any special promotions?
  • Do you have an event coming up?
  • How about sneak peek at a new product line?

Pinterest Expert Actionable Tip: Give it a call to action like “Click on the website below to receive exclusive offers”

2) Update Profile Picture

When was the last time you updated your profile picture? Do you still have a photograph that was taken over a year ago? C’mon pinners we want to see the real you, how you look today. Go easy on the Photoshop. When we meet you in person or we watch you on live on a video we’d like to think we’re actually looking at the same person. Okay, if you’ve gained weight who cares! We’ve all been there. We don’t need you shrink your body size.

Pinterest Expert Actionable Tip: Challenge your graphic designer to put a bright, fresh face on your brand for the fall months. And please make sure it’s clear – fuzzy images will not make a great first impression.

3. Rearrange Your Pinterest Boards

Your first three to four boards should clearly represent who you are and what you offer plus the current season or trending topics. If you still have summer theme boards on top of your grid layout then you might decrease your chances of being followed.

Did you know that over 70% of online consumers go to Pinterest to get ideas & inspiration on what to buy?

This is according to Bizrate a retailer research firm.

Let that sink in for a second. 70% of Pinterest users go there for ideas on stuff to buy.

In addition, 67% go on Pinterest to keep up with the latest trends. With that kind of massive traffic; enterprises, bloggers, marketers and business owners would profit if they could find ways to leverage seasonal and trending boards to get more followers.

One obvious way to do that is to use seasonal and trending boards and stay on topic. What season are we in, what are people looking for?

Pinterest Expert Actionable Tip: Start rearranging your boards 2 to 3 months before the next holiday. Trends & seasons will definitely get more eyes on your Pinterest page and get you more followers too.

Women plan early so you want to make sure that those boards are positioned somewhere in the top two rows of your Pinterest page to increase your chances of getting more followers and repins.

Examples of boards you should have right now are Halloween, Fall/Autumn, Breast Cancer Awareness, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

Empowering your boards with this seasonal merchandising strategy will help you stay current and appeal to the collective shopping mindset prevalent at the time.

4. Change Your Pinterest Cover Board

It’s autumn so keep the colors of your boards a reflection of the current season or your branded colors. Choose an image with the most repins because it’s proven to have a high likability factor so show it off!

5. Rename Your Pinterest Boards

Pinterest Expert Actionable Tips: Give your boards a different title to reflect the current season or holiday.

For example if you have a board labelled “St. Patrick’s Food Recipes” change that to “Thanksgiving Food Recipes”.  Always do your best to include Pinterest’s categories to help you rank high on search engine.

Next, pin at least five images of Thanksgiving related food recipes. This is ideal for businesses, bloggers, or marketers that don’t necessarily cater to a target audience in the food industry. We need to have popular interests and categories on Pinterest because it is proven to get you more followers and it makes us interesting as a brand or business. It’s your bait to get more followers.

6. Join a Pinterest Group Board

Pinterest has a strong community presence. Joining group boards increases your number of followers immediately.

Technically your real number of followers does not show up on your number of “Followers” because what happens is that every pinner that is following a board gives you immediate exposure to their followers too.

So what happens is if you are on 5 other people’s group boards and they each have 10,000 followers on each group board and your pins are on all 10 of those group boards, by default you have all the followers on your Pinterest page plus 50,000 more followers from all the group boards you belong to.

It’s like being in a Facebook group.  You may not be the creator of that group but the members see you every time you post something. So every time you add a pin to a Pinterest group board they see you… all 50,000 of them in my example above.

The group board members will also get an email from Pinterest on your behalf telling them you have pinned an image to that group board.  That’s double exposure!

If they see that you’ve adding valuable content (not just a bunch of hard sell product pictures), but helpful content related to your products whether it is make- up or golf clubs or a tennis business you dramatically increase the odds they will most likely check out your Pinterest account with one simple click to see what other boards you have too.

What trending boards don’t you have right now? For example if you don’t have a Halloween board join one! It will save you a ton of time creating a new board!

Go to Board Deck to search for group boards

I have to agree with Reginald. All the tips I have read this evening have all been generic. Something that can be applied to any social network. I appreciate these tips. I will put several of them in action tomorrow.

Have a great rest of the week Anna.
